A big canvas, virtually square, the G̱úud Eagle Big Blouse is designed to drape an image of G̱úud Gúujaawée Eagle Drum over your body. An ovoid shape (ubiquitous in Haida formline) brings colour around and over it. Through the translucence of the blouse, G̱úud Gúujaawée casts its shadow on your body within. The stretch sleeves keep the drape contained.
Náang hlaa! Play! Pick the colour for your ovoid. Drum out the door!

A G̱úud Gúujaawée Eagle Drum and coloured ovoid are screened onto paper with dye. The drum is placed flat on the big blouse, pinned and heatset. The ovoid is then pinned, cutting and folding the entire image to fit on the front, spilling over to the back. The Big Blouse is then heat set for a second time. The colour and formline migrates from front to back so when donned, it floats around and through you.
“Formline is a language still used by many artists, but I prefer to talk about it as a skeleton. There are two main alphabets, the ovoid shape and the U-shape, with a standard that has been developing for centuries before contact. When I am creating, I actually design the skeleton before I fill the space. The ovoid and U-shape echo throughout the skeleton.” Robert Davidson, Tsahl Eagle Clan“Raven Travelling: Two Centuries of Haida Art” VAG
